For Immediate Release Foreign-Born Workers Surveys Launched Two surveys that examine issues facing Foreign-Born Workers have been launched today by Creative Concepts, a Boston-based consulting firm that specializes in cross-cultural issues. The two surveys, one from the employers perspective, the other from the employees perspective, seek to gain data about how foreign-born workers are impacting the workforce. Over the last decade 100% of the growth in the Massachusetts labor market has come from foreign-born workers, according to the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University. This is in stark contrast to the nationwide trend where over 50% of the growth in the labor force has come from foreign-born workers. With New England companies becoming increasingly dependent upon foreign-born workers, the issues of a diversifying workforce will become critical to profitability. "With foreign workers predicted to play an increasingly pivotal role in the New England marketplace, we must begin to examine the issues that are facing not only foreign-born workers but also their employers" says Kari Heistad, founder of Creative Concepts. Each survey, which takes on average 8 minutes to complete, employs mainly multiple choice questions with optional areas for additional input. The results from the surveys will be released in the fall of 2003. People taking the survey are given the option of providing an email address so that they can receive a copy of the final report upon its release.
